Nigeria has less than 5000 pharmacies and 80% are at risk of being closed. This means that 180 million people will have no access to quality medicines and will have to buy unregulated drugs that are expensive, ineffective and, in the worst case, dangerous. Our calculation: 213.4 million people currently live in Nigeria. They are supplied by around 5000 pharmacies. Each pharmacy therefore supplies an average of 42,680 people who would otherwise have no access to high-quality and suitable medicines.
